Weaving Gold Magic

Scheherazade enchanted her sultan with wondrous tales. So Rimsky-Korsakov weaves magic with dazzling orchestrations and transports listeners to another world with the sensuous melodies and exotic sound colours. Scheherazade is a passionate work with wonderfully inventive storytelling in sound.

Debussy said that Stravinsky "enlarged the boundaries of the permissible in the Empire of Sound". Stravinsky's Symphony of Winds has been described as a miniature masterpiece, with striking sonorities, texture and harmonic language.

High profile Australian composer Elena Kats-Chernin's Percussion Concerto was premiered in 2008 to great acclaim. Exploring a broad range of percussion sounds, this is a great opportunity to hear and see one of Australia's foremost contemporary percussionists, Claire Edwardes.
