INFORMATION FOR CONTESTANTS

About the Competition

The competition is conducted over 3 Sessions and is open to secondary students from any school in NSW and ACT.   Contestants are required to play at least one movement of a concerto.   At the Auditions and Semi-Finals competitors are accompanied by piano. At the Finals competitors are accompanied by Ku-ring-gai Philharmonic Orchestra.

  • Individual musicians may enter the competition in the Junior Section or the Senior Section
  • Small groups or pairs of musicians may enter the competition in the Multiples Section, held at the Semi-Finals recital.

Dates for 2015

  • Entries open: Monday, 2nd February
  • Entries close: Monday, 16th March. The number of entries accepted will be limited by the necessity for auditions to be held on one day. Should this maximum number be reached prior to the closing date, entries may close at this point. 
  • Audtions: Sunday 29th March, 9am - 7pm at Ravenswood
  • Semi-Finals: Sunday 26th April, 11am - 6pm at Abbotseligh
  • Finals: Saturday 20th June, 7.30pm at Pymble Ladies' College

Prizes

  • Overall Winner: $5000 + engagement to perform with KPO during the following year
  • Barbara Cran Award: $1,000
  • Barbara Robinson Award: $1,000
  • Perpetual Cups: awarded to the schools of the above 3 winners, to display for one year.
  • KPO Award: $200 to best performer during rehearsals with the orchestra (KPO players’ choice)
  • Multiples Award: $1,000 (total)
